Results: Treatment with either dose of r-hFSH significantly reduced the percentage of aneuploidies by 29.8%, diploidies by 31.8%, total disomies of the sex chromosomes by 27.4% and disomy of XY chromosomes by 23.3%. No statistically significant differences in the frequency of disomies of YY and XX chromosomes were found. Patients did not report any side effects of treatment. No significant correlation was found between hormone levels and the magnitude of the effect of the drug. Significant correlations were found among endogenous LH, inhibin B, endogenous FSH and testosterone. Conclusions: After 90 days of r-hFSH treatment, a general reduction in the percentage of sperm chromosome abnormalities total aneuploidies, diploidies and disomies of XY chromosomes ; was observed. No significant difference in effect was found between the high and low dose of the drug. Pre-treatment of male ART patients with gonadotrophin could therefore reduce the rate of aneuploid sperm and, consequently, the rate of aneuploid embryos. Since improvement in gamete quality is a major goal of ART, a larger cohort of patients needs to be investigated to confirm the efficacy of r-hFSH treatment on chromosome abnormalities. Reference 1.
