Respirable mass RM, particles: 5.8 m ; and mass median aerodynamic diameter MMAD ; were determined by an Anderson cascade impactor at 28.3 l min in accordance with the FDA 510 k ; regulations using gravimetric analysis. Three trials for each drug were performed. Results: In all tests, the measured MMAD with the VORTEX were similar to the Aerochamber Plus or the pMDI alone. By contrast VORTEX delivered in all cases a higher RM than Aerochamber Plus or the pMDI alone. For example, VORTEX provided up to a 73% higher RM of an ipratropium-MDI Qtrovent , Boehringer Ingelheim ; than Aerochamber Plus .
